Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc

Cap d'Antibes, French Riviera

The grande dame of the Riviera has stood at the tip of Cap d’Antibes since 1870. From the white Villa Soleil, a long garden walk leads down through the pines to the Eden-Roc Pavilion and the famous seawater pool cut into the rocks, lined with private cabanas.

F. Scott Fitzgerald based the hotel in Tender Is the Night on it, and every May, during the Cannes Film Festival, it fills with film stars. It is one of the few hotels on the coast that has never needed to change: the same quiet gardens, the same white villa, the same sea.

La Vague d’Or

Cheval Blanc St-Tropez, Saint-Tropez

Arnaud Donckele’s restaurant at Cheval Blanc St-Tropez holds three MICHELIN stars, one of only a handful on the whole coast. The dining room opens onto the Baie des Canoubiers, and the cooking is Provence and the Mediterranean, refined to the last detail.

Dinner here is the reason many guests choose Cheval Blanc, and the reason many others drive over from Ramatuelle and the Pampelonne beaches. Book well ahead for July and August.

About

The Showcase

One resort and one restaurant, chosen each season.

Each season TheMediterranean.com chooses one resort and one restaurant that set the standard for the Mediterranean, visits them, and writes about them here.

Hotels, resorts and restaurants cannot apply or pay to be chosen.

Our standard: the Showcase is chosen by TheMediterranean.com alone and cannot be bought. Where we stay or dine as a guest of the house, the review says so. Photographs by TheMediterranean.com unless credited.

The Mediterranean Season Letter

Where to be, every season

Four letters a year, one for each season: the Mediterranean from spring to autumn, and Beyond the Mediterranean, into the Alps, in winter. The one best hotel to book, and the events worth crossing a sea for.
